blackberrywatchIn the Blackberry world, the InPulse smartwatch is expected to be a big hit. The manufacturer is not RIM. It’s a start-up company named Allerta, located in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. It will probably be the first Bluetooth watch released, which is scheduled for February. It is available for pre-order now for $149, a bargain price for such an interesting watch.

The watch will connect via Bluetooth it is controlled by an app on the Blackberry.  The InPulse has the following features:

  • Alerts you to incoming calls, text messages, e-mails, tweets and new RSS feeds.  (Curiously, Facebook is not shown on the Allerta web page but I expect that it also alerts you to Facebook messages.)
  • Syncs time from the Blackberry.
  • 1.3″ full colour organic light-emitting-diode (OLED) display.
  • Bluetooth® v2.0+EDR
  • 150 mAh lithium-ion polymer battery.  The watch charges by MicroUSB and requires a charge approximately every four days.
  • Glass lens and full metal body
  • 22mm interchangeable wrist band
  • Vibrating motor for alerts to your wrist.  (Not for surgeons.)
  • Over-the-air firmware updates
  • Dimensions: 51mm height x 38mm width x 12mm depth

Presumably, this same watch could connect by Bluetooth to other smartphones with a unique app.  This watch was identified as the “gadget of the week” in the Sunday London Times.  This is a watch to watch!

I’m looking to get one on my wrist early so look for a review.
