minipaintToday BB4 Software released its initial product, MiniPaint for the Blackberry, for public beta testing. It a small image editor that allows you to overlay hats, mustaches, glasses and other clipart on images stored on your Blackberry.  You can also add text bubbles and text. A mini review of MiniPaint follows.

MiniPaint requires OS 4.5+ and a screen resolution of at least 320 x 240.  The Blackberry Storms are not currently supported.

The program seems to do what it is supposed to do. You can add goofy clipart to your images, text bubbles and text. I don’t believe I am in the target demographic but the program might be appealing to some.

Initially named “BBPaint,” RIM rejected it from the Blackberry App World. Apparently, RIM will not permit an app to have “BB” in the name because of similarity to the trademarked name “Blackberry.” (Makes me wonder whether “BB4 Software” will undergo a name change too.)

The MiniPaint image editor is free but a commercial version with additional clipart will be available.  You can download the beta version from: http://bbfour.com.
