Geeks: What "Openness" Means @ Google

Jonathan Rosenberg, SVP at Google for Product Management, just posted “The Meaning of Open” to the Official Google Blog. It is a reprint of an internal e-mail he sent to all Googlers last week, hence he practices what he preaches. Transparency is key to openness. This is a highly-recommended read because “openness” helps to separate [Read More...]

Although some other apps allow Blackberry users to purchase movie tickets, the new Fandango beta app (oddly given a version number 1.0.1) perfects the art. The app is available for download from getjar.com and it is available for touchscreen and traditional Blackberries. Some features include:

Google Wave team at it again... soliciting your feedback

Kudos to the Google Wave team for soliciting feedback a second time from those who are kicking the tires of the Google Wave preview. This time around, there’s no lengthy survey and 1 through 10s. Simply add wave.stories@googlewave.com to any impressive wave you want to show off to Google or send a new wave to [Read More...]

Add Multi-Touch to Your Motorola Droid!

Droid user jealous of your iPhone friends who pinch-zoom? Motorola Droid users can now (unofficially) upgrade their ROMs to add multi-touch. Many of the Android Google apps support multi-touch, including Google Maps, but the feature has been disabled in the U.S. because of a concern over an Apple U.S. patent.  The European version of the [Read More...]

Chrome OS Netbooks -- Hell Yes, Google will give away computers.

I read that the beta version of Chrome OS that I tested will be altered to allow users to login from the browser instead of the blue screen that follows the boot up. This will enable logins and logouts without rebooting the computer. Whoopdie do, right? This is a far more significant development than it [Read More...]

UberTwitter for Blackberry, Upcoming Features...

UberTwitter is adding two new terrific features and making changes that don’t affect the interface that will improve the app’s performance. The two noticeable changes, as shown in the pictures below of the .941 test release, are  auto-complete of usernames and customizable tabs with color icons.

Why Google won't have antitrust issues with Chrome OS...

The developer build of Chrome OS that I installed comes pre-installed with links to Microsoft Hotmail and Yahoo Mail. These links are probably provided not to spread the adoption of Chrome OS but to alleviate the antitrust concerns that bad boy Microsoft created in the mid-1990s when it tied Internet Explorer to Windows, thus “suffocating” Netscape. But, this makes me ponder… what if the OS is the browser and only the browser? That is the essence of Chrome. Want to run Firefox? You can’t. Want to run Internet Explorer? No way. This differs from the Microsoft fiasco in a number of relevant ways.

Google Earth in the dashboard of the Audi A8...

Cars are getting smart, just like phones. I wrote about Android in your car’s dashboard before. That would be the one giant step for a car… BUT… the Audi A8 will feature a complete Google Earth nav system, in addition to all the other Google apps: [via Google Lat Long Blog]

PayPal released its Blackberry app for sending money to friends, family or anyone with a PayPal account. Blackberry users can send money to anyone in their contact list and 23 currencies are supported. You can check it out in Blackberry App World. This makes me wonder who will be the first to accept donations by [Read More...]

How long will it take for FourSquare to be gamed/hacked for a Double Porterhouse?

FourSquare is already gaining steam amongst geeks and non-geeks alike. It’s a located-based service that allows users to check in at various locations using their cellphones, earn points and even become the “Mayor” of some locations. Back in July, Jennifer Van Grove at Mashable.com suggested that FourSquare could become the next Twitter and earlier this [Read More...]

Sun VirtualBox 3.1.0 (Free) -- Run an OS inside an OS

I’m writing from Ubuntu 9.10 inside of Windows 7 using Sun’s VirtualBox 3.1.0, which was released about two weeks ago. VirtualBox is open source software that enables computers to virtualize computers within an operating system.  So, for example, you can run Windows in Linux and vice versa.
