Today Google announced an update to the free Google Mobile App that allows Blackberry users to better search their email and contacts.

Queries can be typed or spoken and Google Mobile will return matching emails and contacts. Results can be quickly opened or forwarded. The app also promotes contacts you select the most frequently to the top of the search results.

This update comes on the heels of Verizon pushing an update to all of its Blackberry subscribers that makes using any search engine except Microsoft Bing’s more difficult. Good for Google for countering with app improvements that will also promote the use of Google’s search engine through Google Mobile.

To download the latest Google Mobile app, visit m.google.com from the native Blackberry browser.
