Verizon confirms HTC Incredible, Android Superphone

I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the upcoming HTC Incredible by Verizon Wireless. I wrote on March 18 th a post entitled, “HTC Incredible coming to Verizon within two weeks?” It looks like DailyTech was off by a bit but we’re getting close,  very close.

Just a few days ago, someone posted a screenshot from a Verizon inventory system showing that just over 150,000 of this unannounced phone are “on order.” Apparently, this notation in the inventory system signifies that they are in a Verizon warehouse but not available for sale yet.

Today we have two positive developments. The Cellbrite system used by Verizon for phonebook transfers now includes the HTC Incredible model. More significantly, @VZWOffers, one of Verizon’s official twitter accounts tweeted a reference to the HTC Incredible and appended, “good things come to those who wait.” I certainly hope the wait is almost over.

These are the latest rumored specs for the phone, courtesy of Android Forums:

1 Ghz Snapdragon processor (QSD8650) (245 Mhz at idle) which will be underclocked to prolong battery life
RAM – 512 MB (320 usable, like Nexus One)
ROM – 512MB flash + 8GB moviNANDe
8 MP camera (Dual flash and AF), possibly with 720p HD video recording
Android 2.1
Sense UI with Friendstream
Optical trackpad instead of Nexus One-like trackball
3.7 inch screen, WVGA resolution, brilliant AMOLED
1300 MaH battery
FM Tuner (not sure this will get much use but can’t hurt)
802.11 b/g Wifi
Dimensions: 117.5 mm (L) x 58.5 mm (w) x 11.9 mm (T)
Weight: 4.59 ounce

At least one person on Android Forums suggests that the launch will be April 17th, claiming this information comes from multiple sources (who probably all heard it from each other, but, anyways…).

This phone and the Nexus One will breath life in Verizon’s stale Android lineup. Expect the 150,000+ in the warehouse to sell like hotcakes.
