Apparently, Microsoft believes that Linux infringes on some of its intellectual property. A short while back, Microsoft signed its first licensing agreement that included a license to use a Linux-based OS. This basically flew under the radar and the story wasn’t picked up by many sources. Now, HTC and Microsoft have inked a deal whereby Microsoft will receive royalties for all Android handsets sold by HTC, including the Google-branded Nexus One. The financial terms and precise patents were not disclosed.

Oddly, Microsoft now stands to profit from either Windows Phone 7 adoption or, to a lesser extent, Android adoption.
