Google Music to launch this Fall [Rumor]

CNet is reporting that Google’s Music service could launch this Fall. This comes just days after TechCrunch reported that URL manipulation revealed that the service will be called… I’ll give you three guesses… “Google Music.” In my 2009 year end post on this blog, I cited several ways Google and Apple would lock horns in 2010. Google Buzz, Support Growing [Recommended Posts]

I’ve been blogging less lately. I haven’t lost interest but I have been allocating my time differently. Among other things, I’ve been playing around with KIN 1 and KIN 2 (short review coming soon); I’ve been customizing the heck out of Ubuntu linux to make it look more like this video; I’ve been catching up [Read More...]

Google Voice definitely going VOIP

TechCrunch reported in early April that Google was internally testing (“dogfooding”) a desktop app for Google Voice. This is the outgrowth of Google’s acquisition of Gizmo5 back in November 2009. The latest incarnation of the rumor is that Google Voice will be fully integrated with Gmail, according to the (unofficial) Google Operating System blog. This [Read More...]

Google Buzz Expands: Now on all Mobiles and ReBuzzing

I’m a big fan of Google Buzz and encourage others to check it out. Today the Google Buzz Team made two big announcements — one awesome and the other so-so. I’ll start with the awesome announcement. The mobile version of Google Buzz now works on virtually all smartphones, including Blackberry, WebOS, Android <2.0, Nokia S60, [Read More...]

Tech News from the Past Week

I sure picked the wrong week to be busy with non-tech stuff. Much has happened in the past week and my Google Reader is still readlined at 1000+ new articles to read. These are some of the stories from the past week that look the most interesting: Android 2.2 “FroYo” debuted at Google I/O. Many [Read More...]

Google Buzz deserves a second chance

I budget most of my social networking time for Google Buzz. Here’s my long-winded why… Facebook support waivers and A list bloggers like Mashable speculate about the fate of MySpace, but nobody seems to be reporting on Google Buzz. Sure, it faltered out of the gate with a privacy misstep. To briefly recap: users were [Read More...]

Google Orkut Experiment

What the hell is Orkut? It was Google’s first attempt at building a social network. It launched in August of 2008 but never posed a serious challenge to Facebook. As of December 2009, the breakdown of Orkut users by country was 51.09% Brazil, followed by India with 20.02% and United States with 17.28%. Apparently, in [Read More...]

Chrome OS Netbooks Arrive in June

Acer is launching Chrome OS netbooks at a trade show in early June taking place in Taiwan, according to VentureBeat’s sources. This is a surprise to many because Chrome netbooks weren’t expected to arrive this early. I don’t think we’ll see anything surprising with Chrome OS other than possible improvements in speed. Afterall, it’s just [Read More...]

Facebook vs. Google isn't about Social vs. Search

Some notable blogs are setting up a false dichotomy between “social” and “search” for finding and consuming information. They suggest that Facebook is the “social” alternative to Google’s “search.” This is fundamentally wrong, I argue below. Instead, what we have is a war between two “platforms” neither one of which really fits purely into one of those [Read More...]

Google Diversification, Search Fading?

In terms of the interwebs, the last decade could aptly be described as the search decade. Google ruled the day. As newbies came online Google was the launchpad where they all began. The company grew to a massive $170 billion market cap. It fended off competitors and, in the process, put more than a few out [Read More...]

Facebook "Crowdsourcing" the Internet with Like Buttons

What’s Facebook up to with all this “like” stuff? I’ll begin by assuming that you are as confused as I was about this idea. Basically, Facebook is attempting to get every website to implement a Facebook “Like” button. When you click a Like button, your Facebook profile will be updated to include your new Like. The official Google Docs blog details each and every improvement, for those interested in a complete breakdown. Speed and responsiveness were [Read More...]

Adobe sentiment: "Go Screw Yourself Apple."

Apple and Adobe aren’t on good terms. First, Apple decided not to put Adobe Flash support in the iPad. Second, Apple went one step further to try to put the nail in Adobe’s coffin. At the iPhone OS 4.0 event, Steve Jobs revealed that the Terms of Service all app developers must abide by now [Read More...]
