OnLive Broadband Gaming coming June 17, 2010

This looks awesome! OnLive is a video gaming system of sorts that streams games without the need to download them in the entirety. Games are streamed on demand and they can be played on a computer or on a television (with a small box). OnLive officially launches on June 17, 2010 but you can find a number of demo videos on YouTube. They have their own channel at http://www.youtube.com/onlive. Check out the trailer below:

There’s really no secret about my bias. I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Nexus One and HTC Incredible on Verizon. I’m loyal to my carrier but not to my device manufacturer. I’m moving from the Blackberry in large part because Android integrates better with my Google web apps. Maybe I’ll miss the Blackberry keyboard. Maybe I’ll fumble around with my first touchscreen device. I’m not really sure. I toyed with the Droid upon its release and found it to be reasonably easy to use. Maybe that offers me some comfort. Nonetheless, it’s a frightening proposition to give up a phone that I once loved. To help ease the fears, I’ve spent time on YouTube looking at some of the “show off” videos of the Nexus One. The video below is one of the best around. It shows off 100 games on the Nexus One and gives me 100 additional reasons why I’m looking forward to Android.

Civilization Beta Tests on Facebook in June

Get ready to see your Facebook stream flooded with Sid Meier’s Civilization Network, a sequel to his popular Civilization franchise. It will begin beta testing in June. Sid has hinted at what players can expect in the game:

“You can coordinate your strategy to win great battles, share your technology to jump ahead of your rivals, lobby your family and friends to form your own government and win vital elections, manage and grow your cities to maximize production and happiness, spy on your enemies, and work with your friends to create the great Wonders of the World. The game will offer everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment – you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free to play.”

I’ll go out on a limb here and predict Civilization Network to be a smashing success. Goodbye Farmville and Mafia Wars, Hello Civilization Network.
